austin, thanks for your post. i'm curious...what do you think about grieving over physical death? i agree that we should not hide our children from death until they reach the "appropriate" age, but i don't know if we should just accept death as a natural cycle. what i have taken away from the bible is that death itself is unnatural. death is an enemy of man that has been defeated, but its consequences are still antithetical to the way we were designed. what do you think?

Hey Dan, my hope would not to be to downplay Jesus' teachings on heaven and hell at all...just the opposite. I seek to emphasize and magnify it. The Kingdom of Heaven is at hand. What does it look like to live in that Kingdom, here, now and today? This is exactly what Christ seemed concerned with and it is precisely what I hope to be concerned with.

Personally, I think it is impossible to determine Ghandi's salvation, though I will say that insomuch as his mind and heart was open to those around him, moving towards his enemies with love, is it not the Christian position to say that we cannot love without God? Is that not the very salvation we declare as good news to those who live in the bitterness of hatred?

I John 4
"God is love, and the one who abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him."

I should note that I'm not sure yet where Sodexo gets their meat products. I emailed Kevin and am currently awaiting a reply. :-)

You bring up some good points Austin. I agree with you, but I just have a tendency to be suspicious when I read something that seems to, perhaps very subtly, downplay Jesus' teachings on heaven and hell and instead focus entirely on his teachings about our conduct in this life. I do believe that God cares more about our heart and our capacity for love than the particular tenants we hold, but I do think there is a limit where one's understanding of Christian doctrine could be so twisted that that person would go to hell, regardless of how loving that person was in life.

Perhaps controversially, I would place men such as Ghandi in this category.

I love the Missio Dei poster. Excellent. I found the image via google; I am a teacher and was looking for a picture to illustrate this concept. Thank you for making these.
